TVs used to be small boxes that could be placed anywhere in a room. However, with the increasing popularity of larger TVs, many people now choose to mount their TVs on the wall using brackets. Once the TV is mounted, the challenge becomes how to turn it into a stylish feature wall and hide the unsightly wires. If you find your TV looking lonely on an empty wall or if you're bothered by the messy wires, you might be considering getting a media wall. Media walls are a growing trend, and at JAX Bespoke, we offer custom-designed media walls that are tailored to your home and personal style. We can work with you to design, manufacture, and install a media wall that perfectly suits your needs.
If you're considering upgrading your home with a media wall, you're probably wondering about the cost. We're here to answer that question for you. But before we get into the price, let's explain the three main types of media walls.
Before we delve into the price, we need to explain the three main, different types of media walls.
The first type is a plastered imitation chimney wall, which is generally the smallest. These media walls have a built-in alcove that is custom-made to fit your TV and sound bar (if needed). They also typically have an electric fire installed at the bottom of the media wall.
Plastered full wall media walls are built similar to plastered imitation chimney breast media walls, but they extend across the entire width of the original wall. The TV is positioned centrally in the media wall, creating a focal point in the room. To enhance the aesthetics of the wall, parallel alcoves are often incorporated on either side of the TV. These alcoves provide space for displaying ornaments, books, and other decorative items.
At our company, all our plastered media walls are constructed using a timber frame, which is then clad with plasterboard, before being plastered. This process ensures a sturdy and seamless finish. Additionally, skirting is fitted at the bottom of the media wall, adding a polished look to the overall design.
FURNITURE STYLE MEDIA WALLS
Furniture style media walls offer a unique and stylish alternative to plastered and full wall media walls. Unlike the other types, furniture style walls are not plastered. Instead, they are constructed as full units using Finsa Hidrofugo mrmdf, a moisture-resistant MDF material. The customer can then choose which colour they’d like their media wall to be sprayed (painted). Similar to the other media walls, the TV is placed in a custom-built alcove at the centre of the unit. However, the design options for furniture style media walls are vast. Many people choose to incorporate cupboards along the bottom of the unit for storage, while bookshelves are often added on either side of the TV for displaying books and decorative items.
In all our media walls, whether plastered or furniture style, we always leave a 35mm gap between the TV and the wall. This allows enough space for the TV to be pulled forward on the bracket and provides easy access to the services, wires, and plugs behind the unit.
While we have outlined the three main types of media walls, it's important to note that we also offer combinations of these styles. For example, we can create a plastered media wall with furniture-style cupboard doors or a plastered imitation chimney breast with fitted furniture-style alcove units on either side.
To help you understand the starting prices for our bespoke media walls, we have created a pricing table. This table provides a baseline for the cost of each type of media wall; but please keep in mind that the final price will depend on the specific design, materials, and additional features you choose for your media wall. Our team will work closely with you to create a personalised quote that fits your budget and vision.
After reviewing our pricing chart, you may have some questions regarding our "starting" prices. We use this term because every project we undertake is completely bespoke. At JAX Bespoke, we take pride in offering a fully customised experience, where you, as the customer, have the freedom to choose every specification and fine detail of your media wall. These specifications and details are what make up your final quote and can either drive the price up or keep it at the standard starting price.
So, what exactly is included in our starting prices? Our starting prices include VAT, which is charged at 20%. Additionally, they cover the design, manufacture, and installation of your media wall, including both labor and materials. The materials included in our starting prices consist of the required timber, mrmdf (moisture-resistant MDF), an extendable TV wall bracket, and skirting board (if requested) fitted onto the bottom of your media wall. If your media wall has a plastered finish, this is also included in our starting price.
The supply of any TV, soundbar, or fireplace is not included in our prices. While we can supply a fire at your request, we recommend that customers browse online and select a fireplace that fits their budget and preferences. The cost of electric fires can vary greatly, ranging from £350 to £3500+. If you choose to purchase your own electric fire, we can install it for you.
The final quote for your media wall may be influenced by additional specifications and features that you choose. For example, if you desire spotlights inside the alcoves, an electrician will need to be brought in to complete the installation, which will incur an additional cost. Alternatively, LED lighting can be used as a cost-effective option, offering warm, white, or even colour-changing settings. If you are interested in additional lighting options, we can guide you through the various choices to help you select what would work best for your project.
Other elements that can increase the cost of your media wall include adding drawers or shaker doors to the design, choosing a specific colour for the media wall to be sprayed/painted (as our standard furniture media walls come unpainted), and incorporating mirrors, glass doors, or dividers. The possibilities for customisation are endless, but it's important to keep in mind that each addition will result in an additional cost to your final quote.
